Angkor Wat is one of the most important archaeological site and the largest religious monument in the world. Khmer Empire built Angkor Wat as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu. It was built by the Khmer King SuryavarmanII in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura. The temple is huge and built at multiple levels with steep stairs with beautiful carvings around it. After the fall of the Khmer empire the Angkor temples were abandoned and reclaimed by the jungle for centuries. 72 major temples and or other buildings are found within this temple premises, and the remains of several hundred additional minor temple sites are scattered throughout the landscape.

Best Time to Visit: 

Cambodia experiences mainly two distinct seasons as Wet and Dry.

DRY SEASON (October to April):

This is Cambodia’s peak tourist season, most of the attractions and regions of the country are at their most crowded, so it is best to make all your bookings in advance and plan early excursions into your itinerary.

WET SEASON (May to October):

Angkor Wat and the floating forests and village homes of Tonle Sap Lake are especially stunning, while quintessential paddy field views are an everyday sight. As this is low tourist season, you’ll find great deals on flights, stay.

Tips:

  • Get up as early as possible. You really don't want to miss Sunrise here.
  • Get at least 3 days pass to explore.
  • Don't wear tanks, shorts as this is sacred place for Hindus and Buddhist. Pay your respect towards locals culture.
  • The Dry Season is hot and dusty so always wear sun-screen, sunglasses and hats. Apply moisturizer and lip balm daily. Stay hydrated through out the day.
  • For Wet Season; due to heavy tropical showers the theme of the season, carry rain protective gear like rubber boots, raincoats, water-proof bags and coverings for your belongings. Avoid really shanty street food stalls with poor hygiene, as chances of illness are higher during this season.
